General Manager

Job Title

This senior position is responsible for directing the daily operations and activities of this charitable community organisation in order to deliver or Mission, annual objectives and charitable objects as agreed by the board of trustees.


You are also responsible for ensuring that the building and business meets the legal, health and safety and financial rules required to trade safely and legally.


Your responsibilities will include attending member and board meetings, delivering the strategy developed by the committee together with our members and reporting back on a regular basis on key performance indicators and financial performance.


You will lead a team of employees, contractors, volunteers and mentors and manage their working environment and human resources generally as well as overseeing all operations.


In addition, you will be overseeing operations at The Hive building and the student work experience programme to ensure delivery of all aspects of the mentoring scheme.

  • Recruitment, management and on-going human resource for employees, volunteers and mentors as appropriates

  • Procurement, inventory management and overall cost control to meet agreed annual plan

  • Ensuring The Hive facility and external projects meet all legal and Health and Safety requirements

  • Developing relationships with community groups, associations and partners in order to deliver Charitable Objects and community needs

  • Overseeing the development of a successful and sustainable programme of activities and events for the community

  • Writing bids and applications for grants and project funding.

Job Title

Working to the requirements of the board of trustees and the General Manager, this role will ensure the daily operations of this multi-activity venue, with particular responsibility for the effective and profitable operating of the Café Bar and other food and drink provisions.

  • Day-to-day management caretaking and security of The Hive venue and community facilities

  • Maximising service and profitability of the community café bar and other bar areas

  • Management of food offering to meet local community preferences

  • Resourcing and staffing food and drink elements of events (both internal and external).


  • Ensuring the facility is clean, safe and well presented at opening and closing every day

  • Manage the bar and catering operations including the café bar

  • Identify and report maintenance issues and requirements for improvements to facilities

  • Ensuring café bar and other catering needs are met through ordering and inventory control

  • Day to day resourcing of café bar and other bar areas working to tight budgets

  • Communication with partners, users and customers to ensure the facility meets their booking requirements

  • Being the in-house point of contact for customers and users during their visit to the Hive

  • Resolve customer concerns and issues during use of the venue.
